Mexico 2024: Iberostar and More

A few days after returning from Ireland, it was time to head in another direction to Mexico. Iberostar resorts kindly invited a group from my host agency to come down and explore their Cancun area properties, which was an incredible opportunity to learn about their product. After an early morning drive to Fredericton and a quick flight to Montreal, I met up with my friend Donna so we could get started on our adventure. Our flight to Cancun was uneventful (except that Donna was getting the stink-eye from some ladies because she put a bag in the compartment above their seats - we were in an exit row and had to store everything above). Customs was quick, baggage took ages to come out but it did eventually, found our transfer, and off we went to Iberostar Selection Maya Suites.

Check-in at the resort was quick and our rooms were ready when we arrived, so we were swept off via golf cart to building 62. I had a corner room on the ground floor. Recently updated, it definitely had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I didn't even use most of the storage space available and I unpacked everything. I loved that it had a desk (I was there for work) and the balcony was really nice. We rounded out the day with a bit of exploring and a group dinner.

Iberostar Selection Maya Suites is part of a five property Iberostar complex. On our first full day, we had some training sessions and then we toured all five. They may have let us zip around on golf carts in the afternoon to explore part of the on-site golf course as well - super fun!

Next up, we got to explore Iberostar Selection Cancun and Coral Level. These properties have amazing views from nearly every room and are conveniently located in the Cancun hotel zone.

In our final day of resort touring, we visited Iberostar Quetzal and Tucan - these resorts are in the Playa del Carmen area.

We had a mostly free day for our last day at Iberostar, to give us a chance to experience more of what this property has to offer. This may have involved some time in the ocean and in the pool (it was so hot!). We wrapped up our visit with a dinner and party on the beach.

From all the properties we toured, Coral Level matches my vibe best for the room and the complex we stayed at is my preferred location and size. I liked most things about Iberostar Selection Maya Suites and I'd happily return there. The food was fine, the staff were excellent, the beach was nice (a little bit of sargassum daily, but they worked at clearing if off), nice pools. I didn't use the gym since I like to just walk around outside, but it looked to be well appointed and a good size. There's also a big kids club that looked pretty fun. I won't go into the specifics of all the things - there's a lot across what is essentially nine properties, so if you're looking for more information or have specific questions, reach out any time. Last fall at a conference, I won a two night stay at Nizuc. Since I was in the area, I figured I might as well put it to use. Nizuc is not an all-inclusive property. It's fairly close to the Cuncun airport in the hotel zone on Ponta Nizuc. This property is beautiful, the food was quite good, the beach is small but has plenty of loungers, and the service is outstanding. It has a very zen vibe. I'll let photos do the talking here.

For one last adventure before it was time to head home, we spent our last full day in Mexico exploring the mangrove lagoons in Sian Ka'an (no pictures, I didn't want to chance damaging another phone) and the ruins at Muyil (small but interesting) with Alex from Living Dreams. Highly recommend (hit me up if you're headed to Cancun and are looking for a great tour). Some tasty lunch in Tulum and a stop for some iced coffee rounded out the day.

That's a wrap on a whirlwind Mexico visit for 2024. Many thanks to Iberostar and our amazing rep Jason for a great learning opportunity. Ange out.
